Peach Blossom River is a tributary of the Li River, traversing the western part of Guilin. In autumn the red leaves along the river are spectacular. The Ronghu (Banyan Lake) and Shanhu (Fir Lake) are two beautiful lake parks embedded in the center of Guilin. Far back to the Tang Dynasty, they were parts of the city moat. The two lakes are originally a whole before being divided into two parts by the Yangqiao Bridge (Sun Bridge). The east is called the Fir Lake owing to the fir trees growing around, and the west is named Banyan Lake thanks to a giant banyan guarding the ancient city gate that enjoys a history of 1,000 years. There are bamboo groves grown, peach and cassia trees grown around the lakes.
