The Three Gorges Dam is extolled as the “Great Wall across on the Yangtze River” in China. It's called Sanxia Daba in Chinese. It is located in the Sandaoping, Yichang, Hubei Province, is 38 km away from the Gezhou Dam. The project includes the dam itself, flood-discharge structures, a hydroelectric power station and navigational structures. The dam will be 185 meters high and 2,309.47 meters long. The normal water level of the reservoir will be 175 meters.
The reservoir has 39.3 million cubic meters of combined storage capacity, 22.15 billion cubic meters being flood control storage areas. In the event of a flood it will be able to release 100, 000 cubic meters of water per second.
After construction, the Three Gorges Project will become the biggest water conservancy project in the world. The dam will be the largest of its kind in the world. And its world’s largest hydroelectric power station in terms of installed capacity and generated energy, larger even than the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Station built by Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
